Rachel Bloom is an American actress, comedian and writer who co-created and stars in the CW comedy musical series "Crazy Ex-Girlfriend". Bloom was born on April 3, 1987 to Shelli (née Rosenberg) and Alan Bloom in Los Angeles, California. She was raised Jewish and grew up in Manhattan Beach eventually making her way to the east coast in 2009 where she attended New York University's Tisch School of the Arts. At NYU, Bloom was the head writer and director of the school's premier sketch comedy group, Hammerkatz. She graduated with a BFA in Drama and spent her post college years studying improvisational comedy at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theater. n 2010, Rachel released her first Internet music video, "F*ck Me, Ray Bradbury", which went viral and was nominated for a Hugo Award for "Best Dramatic Presentation: Short Form". She continued to release other comedy music videos on YouTube under her official channel "racheldoesstuff". On May 7, 2015, Bloom filmed a half hour pilot called "Crazy Ex-Girlfriend" with co-executive producer Aline Brosh McKenna ("The Devil Wears Prada") which was directed by Marc Webb. It was originally produced specifically for the Showtime network but they ultimately passed on it. The show was eventually picked up by The CW for their Fall 2015–16 programming and would eventually be renewed twice for subsequent seasons. On December 10, 2015 Rachel Bloom won a Golden Globe for her starring role as "Rebecca Bunch" on the series. In 2015 she married actor, comedian and writer Dan Gregor. On April 1, 2020, she gave birth to her first child.
