Patti LuPone

Patti Lupone is multiple Tony and Grammy award winning American singer and actress of the stage and screen. She was born April 21, 1949, in Northport, New York, on Long Island, the daughter of Angela Louise (née Patti) and Orlando Joseph LuPone. She has an older brother Robert who is also a noted entertainer as was her great-grand-aunt a 19th-century opera singer named Adelina Patti . In 1972, LuPone graduated from Juilliard with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree as one of the first class of Juilliard's Drama Division. Her professional career began that same year with the touring theater production known as The Acting Company . From there she started to garner critical acclaim for her work. In 1980 she captured both a Tony and Drama Desk Award for Best Actress in a Musical playing the lead role in the original Broadway production of "Evita ". Over the span of several decades performing on stage more award nominations and wins would follow. On December 12, 1988 LuPone married Mathew Johnston whom she met while filming the TV movie "LBJ". Together they have one son born in 1990 named Joshua Luke Johnston. During this time she made appearances on a variety of television shows including recurring roles on the ABC series "Life Goes On " and the NBC drama "Law & Order ". She has also been featured prominently on the big screen in films such as the 1989 movie "Driving Miss Daisy " and "State and Main " in 2000. On August 18, 2016 it was officially announced that Lupone would guest star on Season Two of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. She is cast as Rebecca Bunch's Rabbi Shari in an episode set in Scarsdale.
